Some of you are already aware of this but I thought I'd detail the Phantom Program and the hidden assignments in Battlefield 4 for anyone who hasn't heard of this yet.

DICE has introduced some hidden assignments via the China Rising and Naval Strike DLC. These hidden assignments are available to unlock by Premium members only - if you share the DLC with your other half like I do with @HaloJ then unfortunately they won't be able to access the assignments.

Unlocking the assignments
To unlock the assignments, you need to visit Battlelog on a PC and view the Leaderboards. At the bottom left of the screen, you should see a small image of a skull.

Click on the skull and a command prompt screen will appear.

You will be asked to input a password. So, what are these passwords?

The passwords have been hidden in clues throughout the China Rising and Naval Strike DLC. In China Rising maps there were gnomes with braille numbers on them. Collecting all of these numbers and corresponding each one to a letter in the alphabet (14 would be 14th letter i.e. 'n') and then rearranging the letters gives your the password to the first hidden assignment, Phantom Prospect. In Naval Strike DLC, the clues seem to be even more complex and as this one has only just been cracked, I've not seen a decent explanation on this yet.

Anyway, for those of us who don't have the time or the inclination to solve these puzzles, here's the solutions thanks to those in the Battlefield community who have worked to discover these.

Phantom Prospect
The password for this assignment is bumpinthenight.

After entering this password, the Phantom Prospect assignment is unlocked.

To complete this, you need 200 kills with assault rifles, 200 kills with main battle tanks and a total of 300 metre headshot. The reward is a Phantom Program dog tag.

Phantom Trainee
The password for this assignment is epic dream worlds.

After entering this password, the Phantom Trainee assignment is unlocked.

To complete this, you need 200 kills with pistols, 20 kills in a jet and 2x Shotgun Ribbons in a round. The reward is a Phantom snakeskin camo.

If there's another hidden assignment with the next DLC I will post an update once the password is discovered.

Yes it could! If you only go for shooting down the gunship, you are almost bound to get a kill or two once in a while. It's hard and it sucks, but it is doable...

Join me in playing AirSuperiority. So far I have got a grand total of one jet kill. It's quite good for getting familiar with jets and unlocking stuff through XP, although it does nothing for your k/d ratio. I will never get the 5 jet ribbons (5 kills in a jet in a game per ribbon - as if!!!) required for an assignment, but at least I can have some kind of chance at this phantom one!

Once you get the final unlocks on the jets you'll find getting kills easier as you get missiles that you don't need to lock....you just fire and forget and they track targets they're pretty close to.....follow damaged jets and fire these off at them and you'll soon start getting kills.

I'll probably play a bit of Air Superiority to tick these off, the lag might be manageable on that game mode at least.

I've never had any lag issues playing Air Superiority so you might be okay on that front.

I always have the rubber banding on Air Superiority, which I imagine is far worse now they've totally screwed up the networking across the whole game.

But in Air Superiority it doesn't make so much difference.

I was following it on the forums. It was quite bizarre, and it took ages to get there!

I've just unlocked them. Gonna have a play now. Looks like they will take some time! Phantom Trainee will be doable for me, but the Phantom Prospect. Meh, don't think my combined kills In a tank on BFBC2 and BF3 even amounts to a 100!

So, the latest Phantom assignment, Phantom Initiate, has just been unlocked. I don't know the story behind it yet (this one was math related, that's all I know) but the password is '24344241893'.

And here is what you need to do to get the assignement:
  1. 200 LMG kills
  2. 50 kills with explosives
  3. 25 road kills

Not that hard to do...

I would have thought they would get harder and not easier to get.....especially as the decode looks a bit complicated.
