A while back we asked you all a simple question: what was the worst game on PS3? The biggest disaster? The experience that most sullied Sony’s console and left a bad taste in your mouth? You voted and these are the results.

The 10 games worst games on PS3
There are a few surprises in there, with at least a couple of games technically critical or commercial successes. There’s also one that might have just been simply misunderstood. But each to their own and this was a vote after all – with the results culled from a lengthy Facebook poll – so the masses have spoken.

Before we look at the top 10 though, a slow clap for the two individuals who, quite staggeringly, gave their votes to Uncharted 2 and Bioshock. Instead of publicising their real names, we’ll call them Troll A and Troll B. “Despite getting a good rep for looking pretty, the characters are stupid and unlikeable,” writes the former of Drake’s middle outing. “Its plot is as original as the gameplay is varied (i.e. not at all).” As for Mr B, he found Bioshock “awkward and boring. For me, it didn’t flow and it was almost a chore to play. Graphically it was fine. The story has great potential. I just got bored.” Fair enough, but worst games on the format, fellas? Time for a spell on the naughty step to reflect upon what you’ve done.

10 - Call Of Duty: Ghosts
Probably one of the more startling top ten entries. While the backlash against Activision’s yearly monster has been slowly gaining ground over the years, it’s still a surprise that Infinity Ward’s latest amassed more votes than both Kane & Lynch games. While plenty of you voted it hasn’t been enough to stop this selling shed loads. Again. True, the numbers haven’t been hitting the peaks of previous entries but it’s unlikely you’re won’t see another one this year. Especially as the series is now a three studio effort on three yearly cycles. Be interesting to see how that shakes things up.

9 - Alpha Protocol
As much a fascinating experiment that didn’t work as it was a bad game. Obsidian’s action-RPG mixed traditional hardcore role playing character creation and mechanics with espionage to create something… odd. All the RPG staples were there like special attacks and, effectively, magic (in the guise of gadgets and tech) but over the ‘realistic’ grounding of the world created a very odd experience. It was possible, for example, to create a character completely specialised in hand-to-hand and win fights against rooms full of people with machine guns. “The limitations on gameplay and truly stupid AI were hilariously bad. Returned it the very next day,’ wrote Charlie Barrell of the game.

8 - Resident Evil 6
Another surprise in eighth as you could argue this was underwhelming, sure, but not ‘worst game in the history of PS3′ bad. The problem Capcom seem to have post-Resi 4 is not understanding what made it’s ground-breaking reboot so successful. Torn between risking everything again on a total do-over or staying with a safe bet this tried to please everyone with a three parter that tried to recreate the original games feel and be a modern shooter at the same time. It didn't really work.

7 - Brink
This can feel somewhat harshly treated to have landed in seventh spot. Released now, on PS4′s more social and infinitely better connected platform, and this online only shooter would have faired much better. On PS3, with its notoriously shonkly connections and, arguably way ahead of it’s time, it simply didn’t make sense back in 2011. True, it wasn’t a stellar shooter overall but when you look at what Warframe and Blacklight are doing on now PlayStation 4 you can see how forward looking this was at the time.

6 - Sonic The Hedgehog
At number six was a platformer most had sensibly wiped from their memories: Sonic’s swiftly forgotten PS3 launch title. Following the adventures of Sonic, Shadow and Silver it jumped between the three as they attempted to rescue a princess. Sonic had speed, Shadow did combat and Silver solved puzzles with the power of his mind. It was meant to celebrate the ‘hog’s 15 anniversary but its clunky development riddled it with issues like bad controls, glitches and terrible loading times. Even gaming first human/hedgehog kiss couldn't save it.

5 - The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
From the moment this crass cash-in appeared it stank up the place like the monsters that shuffled through its streets. It looked rushed, felt out knocked by marketing pressure rather than love and was a shooter almost exactly as horrendous as Telltale’s efforts based on the same show was good. It was slow, broken and ugly all of which contributed it to being the “worst game ever released,” according to Joe Wall.

4 - Duke Nukem Forever
Fortunate to miss out on the top three was Duke Nukem Forever – astonishingly, Borderlands dev Gearbox’s second appearance in the top four (see if you can guess what else made it in?) After 15 years in development it seemed the game was dead and buried until the the Texas studio stepped in and breathed life into something that that was a mix of old, bad ideas pressed together to make a game. “Only with true balls of steel could anyone bear more than one level of that mess,” opined Bavo De Veirman.

3 - Ride To Hell: Retribution
This abominable vehicular-combat effort is one of the only truly irredeemable games on the list. A technical, narrative and ethical mess thanks to it’s portrayal of women, it became a minor sensation because of just how bad it was. The opening moments are such a disjointed and incoherent noise that gameplay videos looked as if they’d been randomly edited to make no sense. “Buggy, glitchy, unpolished, played awkward, looked awful and had terrible sound quality,” summarised Richard Lee Breslin. Accurately, too – it was beyond dire.

2 - Aliens: Colonial Marines
One of last generation’s biggest scandals Colonial Marines promised big with an E3 demo that seemed to accurately and lovingly recreate the original movie. On release however it delivered a turgid shooter full of cliches, rote mechanics and basic functional looks. For a while it seemed like this might take the top spot, but ultimately it was shunted into second. “Hicks survived (pure fan-pandering), Hadley’s Hope wasn’t flattened by a 40-megaton nuclear blast, and as for the turd-on-legs ‘boiler alien’… a joke of a game!” wrote Stuart Marsden.

1 - Haze
When PS3 launched in early 2007, few studios’ stock were higher than Nottingham-based Free Radical. Certainly, you’d never have guessed the brains behind Timesplitters would soon craft what would one day be declared the console’s all-time worst game. Yet here we are: seven years on, as PS3 starts pondering retirement plans, with Haze earning that very accolade on the back of our Facebook vote. We didn’t contact the team for comment. It would’ve been salt in a very dirty wound. Now called Crytek UK after being purchased by EA, the studio made up for its Nectar-flinging disaster with Crysis 3′s respectable multiplayer – but for you guys, there’s no forgetting the blaster that emerged in ‘Splitters 4’s stead. “Such a letdown has not been known since Neville Chamberlain stood in the street waving in his hand a piece of paper,” wrote Julian Caithness – earning 10/10 for overstatement. Reader Thomas Dettingen’s criticism wasn’t quite so dramatic, but shared the same sentiment: “A horrible game populated by horrible characters. Playing it stung like a burst blister.”

So, what do you think of this list? Are there any titles that are missing that you think should be included in the top 10 worst games on the PS3?

I've only played Haze and agree. Total waste of time.
Surprised at Sonic being there though, I like those games. Youth of today have no idea!

Has Sonic brought anything new to gaming or it's games in the last 20 odd years?

It doesn't need to, the original Sonic is still the tits.

And you're not allowed to disagree unless you've put in the time and unlocked golden sonic!

My greatest ever gaming achievement is completing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Master system II in one sitting without losing a life. In fact I think that is the greatest thing I have ever done period.

Sonic, sadly the only member of his species not to have been run over by a truck.

I actually like the Aliens game. Its got its faults but its not too bad. Ghosts is definitely the weakest COD to date, both single and multi. Its not crap crap, but theres nothing that leaps out from it.

Res 6 wasnt too bad. Not as good as my fave 4, but its still good.

Why isnt Braid on there? Or Kinect Disneyland?!?! These games are far more worthy of being the biggest disasters.

I really enjoyed that game, it felt much more authentic than the other previous Alien games....the let down for me was that it didn't get much support and the multiplayer became quickly boring.

If they can get the multiplayer right on an Alien game it'll be the tits.....best way forward in my opinion would be 4-8 player co-op.

Shame Brink is on the list. I can see the argument why and I agree it would fair better on PS4. But Brink was a welcome change to the shooter genre and I enjoyed playing it.
