Status Updates (Profile Posts) are a way for members to post quick messages on the forums about what they are up to. They are very similar to status updates on Facebook and tweets on Twitter and they are limited to 140 characters.

There are three ways that you can post a status update. The easiest way is to enter it into the Recent Status Updates block on the Home and Forums pages. This block displays the most recent status updates by members.

You can also enter a status update by:
    • Clicking on your name at the top right of the forums and then entering the status update at the bottom of the dropdown menu.
    • Going to your Profile page and entering the status update into the Profile Posts section.

If you want to respond to another member's status update, visit their Profile Page by clicking on their name or avatar and from their Member Card click on Profile Page. From there you can comment on or like their status update. You can also make a Profile Post on their page and view all of their previous Profile Posts.

Members can view all of their own status updates on their own Profile Page along with any responses and posts made by other users.

Remember that posts you make on other members' Profile Page are visible to other members of the community. If you wish to have a private conversation with someone, please use Conversations (Private Messages).

Status Updates and Member Profiles cannot be seen by guests, only by registered users. See Member Card and Privacy for more information and how to review your privacy settings.

Just to add to the above, you can also make Profile Posts on other members' Profile Pages. You aren't limited to just comments, you can make a new Profile Post too. This is ideal for things like wishing Happy Birthday to someone or asking them a question. Please do remember that anything posted on someone's Profile Page is visible to other members. If you wish to have a private conversation with someone, please use Conversations (Private Messages).

You can restrict who can post on your wall or even prevent anyone else from doing so by changing the relevent settings in Privacy. But where's the fun in doing that? It's nice for members to be able to converse in public on each others' walls, especially when sending birthday greetings. Of course should anyone post anything they shouldn't on your wall, there is a Report link just as there is for every post on the forums. Seniors (full members) can also manage and delete posts on their Profile Page too.

Just a reminder to folks about Profile posts and status updates. Do check out people's status updates in the sidebar block on the forums. You can then respond to these by visiting their profile page as detailed above.

As I previously said, you can post new messages directly on someone's profile page ie it doesn't have to be a reply to something they've posted. It's a bit like writing on someone's Facebook wall. Just remember what you write on someone's profile page is visible to all registered users (not guests). It's a great way to wish someone a Happy Birthday by posting on their profile wall. :)
