I have been snapped speeding by a fixed camera, was doing 39 in a 30 (apparently) which I have to say is very unusual for me to be speeding as I don't do it normally, all I can put it down to is just going with the flow of the traffic which I know is no excuse.

Has anybody done one of those driver awareness courses ? im thinking of just taking the fine and the points as loss of pay and then paying for the course will be a P.I.T.A.

Unsurprisingly, I have attended 2! Boring and understandably patronising but cheaper in the long-run if you have more than 3 points. If these are your first points then your insurance won't change so taking the points may be the better option....

I've so far been lucky enough to not get caught speeding but I think I'd probably go with the course rather than the points. My sister has been on the course. She said it was okay.

You might get lucky Mick. Its not a perfect system, and they have to have a shot of absolute clarity before they can convict.

As I drive for a living , I would have to do the course as points on my licence would not be good. I havent had a speeding ticket since 1982 a year in which i was done 3 times on the same stretch of road. Nowadays I drive to work at 3.30 am, and i virtually never see another car never mind a police car. theres also no cameras en route.
During the day my truck only does 56mph and takes 3 minutes to get to top speed , so not much chance of me going over the limit and the only speed camera that I pass has been set on fire.

Decided I'm going to take the fine and 3 pts, its my first ever pts and I am annoyed with myself for getting them.

Luckily it wont affect my job and I dont pay for my insurance so that isnt a problem either :)

Not leaving yourself any wiggle room though if it happens again. Prevention as they say is better than a cure.
