A new video released today by Sony includes what may be our first look at PlayStation 4 friend notifications.

The short clip, released to demonstrate the PS4's various social features, shows a friend pop-up appear while a user plays Destiny.

Friend notifications are not yet available on PS4 but are one of the most-requested features for the console from fans.

The clip suggests that Sony may be implementing the feature in the near future, however - we're checking now for more details.

Hopefully you can turn it off individually and it's not linked to all notifications. I like being notified if I have a message bit it's PITA every time a friend logs on and off. One of the first things I did was turn off the notification of friends joining chats.

It's all well and good, but they'll have been in game with you for twenty minutes before you get the message #PSNsucksass

Yes, I hope you can switch them off. I also hope (but highly doubt) that they are 'intelligent' with how these work, so that if you are watching a streaming service such as Amazon Instant or Netflix that the notifications are off for that even if they are on for in-game. There's nothing more annoying than watching a TV programme and having lots of notifications pop up.

What is the point of joining a party chat, then using the text messaging to communicate?

Ideal communication for mutes. Or if you are doing something else with your mouth. :)

Yeah, whatever. :P
Heh, I thought it was far from sensible!

Personally I can't see a point for most people to text messages in chat. As it is, I hate it when people message you in-game when you are already in a chat room (different matter if you're not, you have to message then), because you have to pause (if you can, can't on some games) and then wait 15 minutes for the dreadfully slow PSN to finally show you the message. Then it's usually something like "Can I join you?" Just jump into chat and ask me that - if I don't want you to join, I'll say so!!

I would like to be able to change my PSN id but they don't seem to want to do that either.

So in conclusion.....Sony should just fix the speed issues existing services.

Do notifications pop up when using streaming services currently? I think I've got most turned off anyway, the only notifications I get when using the likes of netflix is message/invite/powersave messages.

If it works anything like the XB1 friends notification system, you have an option to make a friend a "favourite" and this will enable a notification. Otherwise it remains as it is currently.
