Rockstar is working to transition the online components of Red Dead Redemption, GTA4 and Max Payne 3 in response to GameSpy's server shutdown.

Core online gameplay will be saved for these titles, although the servers for older Rockstar games will be shut down when GameSpy ceases operating on 31st May.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is unaffected, Rockstar assured in a new FAQ post.

But some features in the company's other biggest games will be lost during the move.

Red Dead Redemption's online multiplayer will remain operational, but its Social Club stat tracking, leaderboards and in-game Social Club services will not survive the move. In-game multiplayer leaderboards will also be removed for the game's PlayStation 3 version.

Grand Theft Auto 4's online multiplayer will also stay, although again, Social Club stat tracking, leaderboards, and in-game leaders on PlayStation 3 will be removed.

Max Payne 3's online gameplay will survive - except on Mac, where it will be removed. Social Club stat tracking, leaderboards and in-game leaderboards will be unaffected.

Now onto the older titles. Midnight Club Los Angeles will have its PlayStation 3 online multiplayer shut down, although other versions will survive. Social Club features, account linking and the in-game Rate My Ride and Driving Test unlocks will also be disabled.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will see all Social Club mini-games, stat tracking and content unlocks removed across DS and PSP versions.

Rhythm title Beaterator will similarly see all Social Club features removed, and its track upload/download feature disabled.

Finally, Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition will also have its online multiplayer mode and in-game leaderboards switched off.

GameSpy's decision to close its long-running multiplayer servers - used in hundreds of games across multiple companies - has had far-reaching consequences. Here's a round-up of the titles we know to be affected so far.

Here, anybody up for some Midnight Club LA? I seem to recall getting all of the expansions but I don't know if I actually played them! I loved midnight club on the ps2. Think even I've got 2 copies of LA as I used to head 2 head it...

So is this Gamespy closing down or just having a big clear-out?

Read the article or I'll encourage your wife to make that leek thing
It only mentions the server side of things (see I did skim and double check). It just sounds like its tieing up lose ends before it disappears.

and DONT YOU BLOODY DARE!!!!!!! To put it finely. I still carry the scares.

UPDATE 4/04 3.32PM: GameSpy's shutdown will affect multiplayer matchmaking for Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends, developer Firefly Studios.

The full list of titles powered by GameSpy servers runs into the hundreds. It's now out of date - many have already been moved to new hosting in preparation for GameSpy's shutdown - but it stands as testament to the wide-range of games the company once served.

GameSpys shutdown. Couldn't have made it clearer myself. @Bloodfairy please getting cracking on that leek thing for your beloved @Sportsvee please.

So I had a shot of RDR with Bo last night.

I couldn't see him onscreen (but could on the mini-map) until my first death & then everything ran just fine.

Worth trying to organise another event perhaps?
