Capcom plans to host beta soon after PS4 launch

Capcom has announced that its upcoming PS4 exclusive, Deep Down, will be a free-to-play title.

The news comes from an announcement at the Tokyo Game Show, passed on by Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida via Twitter.

According to Yoshida, Capcom also revealed plans to host a beta for the game "near the launch of PS4 in Japan", which is February 2014. No further details were disclosed.

Capcom recently released fresh images of the game following new information from Sony's PS4 Japan press conference, where it was announced the game takes place in a futuristic New York setting.

Capcom also released a new trailer, along with news the game will support online multiplayer for up to four players.

The procedurally generated dungeon crawler is expected to release in 2014.

I have high hopes for this title, the fact that it's a free to play is encouraging.

I've always enjoyed what Capcom come out with, they may have some slightly strange control setups and the difficulty level is notoriously high on many of their games with a requirement for precise timing....but the results are normally a very enjoyable game and this looks to follow in that path.

It's like a cross between Monster Hunter and the graphics of something that doesn't already look ten years old.
