Senior Gamers now has a new Notifications system.
If you're reading this on the website rather than Tapatalk, you should have seen it already.
The existing Notices system appears at the top of the forums. You can read about these and see examples of these in the Notices thread in this section.
The new Notifications system will complement the existing Notices system. Whilst Notices can only be used by admins (i.e. me and HaloJ), Notifications can be used by all staff.
Notifications will appear in the bottom right of the screen and look like this.
Notifications remain in a fixed position on the page, even when scrolling.
Clicking on the cross in the top right corner will temporarily dismiss the Notification. Depending on how the Notification has been created, it may be dismissed just for the page you are on (so will reappear when you visit another page), it may be dismissed for that visit to the website or it may disappear for a longer period e.g. 1 day or 1 week. After that it will reappear. This temporary dismissal is linked to cookies so if you visit the site on another device, the Notification will be visible again. To dismiss the Notification permanently, click on the Dismiss Notification link.
Notifications can be set in a variety of ways, such as to target certain groups of users or even individuals. They can also be timed so, for example, a Notification may only be visible on a certain date. Notifications can also be created to automatically disappear without you having to dismiss them. They can also be set so they cannot be dismissed at all but we're unlikely to use them like this!
If you accidentally dismiss a Notification before reading it and want to know what it says, you can restore it by going to your Profile, clicking on Preferences and then ticking the Restore Dismissed Notifications option, then clicking Save. All previously dismissed Notifications will then be displayed again for you to read and then dismiss again. Note that you can also restore dismissed notices from the same location.
We will likely be using Notifications for quick reminders about things - possibly some event reminders (but not reminders for all events!), wishing people a happy birthday (make sure you have your birthday in your profile!) and a few other things.
