The BBC will make a HD remake available on its website

Classic text adventure The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy will be getting a special 30th anniversary re-release, courtesy of the BBC.

Developed by Zork creator Infocom, the Hitchhiker's Guide computer game was released on September 1984 and puts players in the role of the book's hapless protagonist Arthur Dent.

Now the BBC has confirmed it will be releasing a remastered edition to celebrate its 30th birthday.

The game will be made available on the BBC Radio 4 Extra website on March 8. On the same date, BBC Radio 4 Extra will also begin broadcasting series one and two of the original 1978 radio serial.

"The world's most devious game will now be in high definition, thanks to refreshed illustrations and graphics," reads a statement from the BBC. "It is a web-based game and will be accessible via Radio 4 Extra's website.

"Players can take the game on the move as it will be compatible with tablets and other internet enabled devices."

The game was notoriously difficult and was known for killing players in a number of devious and inventive ways. One early challenge in particular, the 'Babel Fish' puzzle, rendered the game unbeatable if it wasn't solved properly.

This is not the first time the Hitchhiker's Guide game has been remastered. The BBC created a 20th anniversary version in 2004, which also featured on the Radio 4 website.

Text based adventure games were my favourite on the C64. There was one game called Runaway which I loved. You were basically locked in your house and had to try to find your way out.
Never played Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, will have to keep my eye out for it.

I could never get into it or very far so I quit. But some of the other games from back then would rock with a re-mastering.

You know what I'm talking about, don't cha, don't cha!!
