GT5 Academy Edition is due out on 28th September and is currently priced at £16.97 on Amazon.

This edition includes the main game plus the following DLC also on the disc:

    • Complete Pack (Car Pack, Course Pack, Special Paint Pack, Racing Gear Pack)
    • Car Pack 2
    • Car Pack 3 and Course Pack 2
    • The Nissan GTR driven in this year’s Nurburgring 24 hour race by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

I'm toying with the idea of picking it up. However, Need for Speed: Most Wanted is out on 2nd November. Also I'm not really a petrol-head - I do enjoy racing games but probably the more arcadey type. I've also played some GTs in the past, the last being GT3 A-Spec and I didn't really get very far with them, the racing being a bit too realistic and dull.

So I'm posting this to find out if anyone else is thinking of picking it up and to give the petrol-heads here the chance to convince me as to why I should pick this up as well as Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Go on, you know it makes sense!

The GT series is very different to the likes of NFS, Burnout etc. Yes it can be a bit tricky and at times frustrating but it's soo pretty - to the point that mates got a calendar created from gt5 images for crimble last year!

    Bargain for the money!

How much is a used edition? Surely a better option. I did opt for the SPA track as DLC, and it would be nice to get a race or two on that track, but I would be happy just to get a few nights in with other seniors using the standard edition. You reallly dont need all the extras. People can actually give you cars and things .

I already have gt5 and it's one of them games I will keep forever, it looks cheap including the DLC so probably worth it if you both own it. It is a great game

I like the sig Mick, I might re do mine as I'm not into battlefield quite as much as I was.
I could stick a skyline or something on it. ;)
Actually A TRANSIT SUPERVAN would be cool.
Martok, have you decided about getting GT5 ? I think we could have some good race nights in the future, and as you can see by the recent videos the current bunch of racers all have differernt abilities.
Perhaps we could put catch up on to help the poor soles at the back and give the quick chaps at the front a bit more of a challenge.

    Martok-
Yes, it has been tempting me and I've been umming and arring about it for a few days now.

However, when I tried GT5 at the Eurogamer Expo, it seemed, well, a bit slow even though I was driving a reasonably fast car. Also, when I spoke to Plaxinator (and a couple of others have said this), it sounds like GT5 can be a bit of a grind to unlock stuff.

So, on the one hand I'm tempted to buy it, though if I'm honest I'd be doing this more for the community so I could join in SNR events than because I really want it. On the other hand, I'm not really a petrol-head and wonder if it's all going to be a bit much for me with all the cars, settings and options available. Also it's trying to find the time to play it too (currently I'm playing KZ3, BF3 and Borderlands 2) plus Need for Speed: Most Wanted is only a month away and I will definitely be getting that.

So despite the good price I need some real convincing as to why I should get this.

£15 for the game and that DLC is a bargain.

As for unlocking stuff you dont have to do that as people can always send you cars to use, also it is so easy to unlock stuff now. When the game first came out there was no 100% sign-in bonus, and no other bonus come to think of it, its sooo easy now.

So, if I was to buy this, would I be able to join in any of the games because I can either unlock stuff quickly or folks would send me cars to play with?

Also, Halo wants to know if she got a copy would someone buy her a baby blue Lotus Exige?

To take part in online races you dont have to unlock anything. Anybody can send you a car to race in if you dont have/cant afford it. Only limits on sending cars are. You can only send 1 car per day, car value is limited to 1 million credits, and some of the "special" cars cannot be sent.

So basically there isnt anything that will stop you from joining in the online racing as I, and im sure others, will be only too willing to send you cars to race in.
