The ability to follow other members isn't a new feature but I thought I'd explain how it works as it does some useful things.
How to follow members
To follow a member, simply click on their avatar next to one of their posts or their name anywhere on the forums. When their membercard pops up, click on Follow. Note that when you hover over this link, it will tell you if the member is following you or not.
You can also visit their profile and click on Follow at the top right of the page.
Note: In both cases, once clicked the Follow link will become an Unfollow link. Clicking on Unfollow will remove the member from your followers list.
You can see who you are following and who is following you on your profile page in the sidebar on the left. Click on your name at the top right of the forums and then click on Your Profile Page to see this.
Note that if you are following a lot of people then you will only see some of them here. You can see the complete list as detailed below.
Managing who you follow
Click on your name at the top right of the forums and then click on Personal Details.
Next, click on People you Follow.
On this page, you can see everyone that you are following. You can unfollow members or follow other members by typing in their names in the Follow box, then saving any changes.
Benefits of following members
There are three things you get if you follow other members.
1. You can clearly see members who you follow when they are online as their avatar appears in the Members Online Now block.
2. You can easily see all posts, likes and other interactions from those you follow in your own personalised news feed. To see this, click on your name at the top right of the forums and then click on Your News Feed.
3. Active Seniors, who are able to create their own User Albums in the Media Gallery, are able to share their Albums in various ways (public, members only etc). One way is to share an Album with People You Follow. So by following people on the forums, you can then be very specific about who can view your album without having to type in a list of names (which is another option and can be useful if you want to share with some who you don't follow).
