I've watched a few films in my time and read a lot of reviews about films.
There's a lot of good films out there and everyone seems to have a differernt opinion on what the best ever films ever made are.

I personaly like comedies the best but also / sci fi / action / adventures. Not into Horror, War, violence Romcoms, Animations or foreign films so my lists for them are quite short.
Here's my favorites by Genre firstly. (favorite - top of lists)

    Action/Adventrure/

    Pirates of the carribean
    Lord of the rings
    Gladiator
    Die Hard
    Braveheart
    Expendables
    Indiana jones . lastcrusade
    Mad Max
    Lawrence of Arabia
    Dark Knight
    Raiders of the lost ark

    Sci Fi

    The Matrix
Star Wars trilogy (empire strikes back was the best)
    I Robot
    Total Recall
    Blade Runner
    Terminator
    Independance Day
    2001 a Space Oddesy
    E T

    Comedy

    Blues Brothers
    Forrest Gump
    Truman Show
    Ghostbusters
    Life of Brian
    Happy Gilmor
    Airplane
    Talledega nights
    Groundhog day
    Caddy shack
    Nat lampoons xMas vacation
    Ferris Buellars day off

    Crime /Gangster /

    Gangs of New York
    Pulp Fiction
    Goodfellows
    The Godfather
    Shawshank Redemption
    Reservoir Dogs
    Dirty Harry

    War Films

    Saving Private Ryan
    Apocalypse Now

    Horror / scary films

    The thing
    Alien
    Predator
    Friday 13thb
    Halloweeen

    Animation

    Toy story 3
    Finding Nemo
    Toy story 1
    Lion King
    Wall-E

    Sports

Rocky is the only decent one.

    Cowboy

    Blazing saddles
    The good , bad, ugly
    A fist full of dollars
    3:10 to Yuma
    Unforgiven
    The Magnificent seven
    A few dollars more

I could probably go on for hours and make massive lists, but the way I think of a good film is one that you could watch every few months and stil enjoy it.

As a footnote, my all time top ten films are:

    Blues Brothers
    Pirates of the Carribean
    The Matrix
    Forrest Gump
    Gangs of new york

I own over a 1000 bought DVD's and have downloaded hundreds and have seen way too many to count or pick a definitive list from.

I don't really watch 'Rom coms' or Disney/Pixar films unless they're on In the background while the wife watches them.
I don't even have a favourite genre, I'll watch practically anything.

My collection contains Basil Rathbone, Hammer Horror, Vincent Price, War films from 'The longest Day' to 'Saving Private Ryan', Russian, Korean and Australian war films. Classic Sci Fi like The original 'War of the Worlds', 'Day of the Triffids' and 'Flash Gordon'. Foreign films like 'Oldboy' and 'Nightwatch'. Anime/Manga films like 'Urotsukidoji'. Gangster films Including 'The Long Good Friday'. BBC documentaries and comedy series. I even have classic porn flick 'Deep Throat' on DVD.
I have a boxset of films that are just music put to film and photo's 'KOYAANISQATSI' being the first one.
My taste In films Is quite eclectic so an all time top ten would be impossible.

I love a wide range of films, impossible to have a top ten, but filsm I consider great would be,

Brazil , great Terry Gilliam film, gets more relevant every year
Amelie , love a bit of french whimsy
    Spirited Away, classic anime
    Sin city
Watchmen, not universally applauded but thought it was at least different.
City of God, film about favelas in brazil
Casablanca, cant go wrong with Humphrey Bogart
Tora Tora Tora - best and factually accurate pearl harbour movie

My best films ever are :-

Lord Of The Rings (these are my fave films of all time)
Star Wars (all 6 ;) - bloody awesome)
Unforgiven (really moving about how a man cant escape who he is no matter how hard he tries)
Dances With Wolves (absolutely brilliant music and story - shame about Kostner)
Last Of The Mohicans (best fight sequences in any film, plus my mate Mike was in it as an extra!!!)
Platoon (cool music and cracking story loosely based on Oliver Stones experience in Vietnam)
Dune (one of the best sci-fi films Ive ever seen)
Falling Down (brilliant and funny at the same time)
    Pulp Fiction (same as above)
Sons Of The Desert (the funniest Laurel & Hardy film ever)

Thats my top ten. Missing are the Alien films which I love to bits, as well as the Matrix trilogy, Flash Gordon (bloody good soundtrack and Ive never got over my crush over Ornella Muti), Planes Trains & Automobiles, Dirty Harry films, the Bourne trilogy, The Good, The Bad & the Ugly, Dog Soldiers and The Descent. Im a sci-fi nut, but on looking through my blu-ray/dvd/hd dvd collection theres a lot of horror in there. Now I wouldnt have said I was a horror fan, but I guess I am!!

TV I'd say Game Of Thrones is the best thing Ive ever seen (Im biased as I love the books anyway ;) ), the Sopranos (I love that episode Pine Barrens where Pauly & Christopher are lost in the woods - so funny), Friends (still good and funny even now), Bottom, Young Ones, Father Ted, Cold Feet, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf ( :woot: ), Just Good Friends, Dirty Sanchez, & Cold Feet.

Best rom-coms/chick flicks are The Sure Thing and About Last Night. The Sure Thing is really cheesy, but has some really witty lines in it.

Worst film Ive seen is probably Father Of The Bride. I watched 20 minutes and me and my mate walked out the cinema. We couldnt understand why the cinema audience were laughing, as I thought the film was soooo bad. Anything with Stallone is usually shite as well.

    I quite liked Flesh Gordon.
The music on Flash was rather good though.
Some good war films and westerns mentioned in there, maybe I could extend my list, using some of them. And how could I ever forget about "Brazil".

I know, I went to the pictures to see it in my younger days. It was fairly soft core porn with tits and bums and cock jokes if my memory serves me.

Our collection is over 700 strong, so nearly caught up Herman ;) . Will post my lists a little later after much thought  . However an app on both my PC and synch with the ol' IPad called Movies CLZ. It does cost about £20 (bought mine ages ago, so don't quote me). Anyway it is a superb program, just zap in your barcode and all the movie details populate, along with the movie trailer. It even has a lent out section, so you know who has borrowed your copy of Confessions of a Window Cleaner 8 months previously  .

Christ it is hard to make a definitive list. I forgot about Seven, Man On Fire, The Thing, 30 Days Of Night, Watchmen, Saw, Gangster No 1, Jackass The Movie 1 & 2, and of course all the Bond movies (I love James Bond. Silly films really, but enjoyable all the same).

Ive got the ultimate grumble flick on dvd called Virtual Blowjobs. Its the only dvd I own that has multiple angles, so you can switch from POV, between the legs/nut/hairy arse crack shot, or side profile of them noshing, all on the fly. I only kept it because of the multi-angle thing, although there are some cracking money-shots in it. But most bizarre of all, theyve got Directors extras. These include proper interviews with the "cast". And I do mean proper interviews. Fully clothed and not talking dirty, just a bit about themselves, how they got in to porn, etc etc. My mates wives/girlfriends returned back early from a night out, and they watched all these extras with great fascination. It really is bizarre to hear them talk normally, rather than the ridiculous monlogues of "yeah, oooh yeah baby, your so big" etc etc. Another reason I kept it & fought the wife over removing this said article from the house, is that I went through extreme and utter embarrassment in the purchase and repatriation of this dvd, and I'll be damned if Im going to get rid of it!!
