Adblockers

Many of you will be aware that we display advertisements to guests and also to members with Bronze level benefits. Adverts aren't displayed to Silver level benefits and above. See the Benefits page for details. Basically, we generate a very small amount of income from adverts towards the upkeep of the site.

I have added a feature that will detect if a guest or Bronze level member is using an Adblocker and it will display a message to notify them of this. Guests cannot dismiss the message but Bronze level members can for a short period of time.

This won't affect the vast majority of you but if you are a guest or a Bronze level member who is using an Adblocker to hide adverts, I would be grateful if you could disable it for this site, as viewing those ads will help a little towards supporting this community.

Indeed. For active members like you it won't make any difference.

Does the message that appears make it clear that ads are not displayed to members, I can imagine that someone who could potentially become a member would be put off if they think that the ads are a "feature" of the site.

There is a separate notification to visitors about registering and being an active member to view the site without adverts. However, I do like your suggestion so I have amended the Adblock message to say the same thing too.
